Overlooking a lake in the Cotswolds, The Lake House is designed around simple forms, bold material gestures and uninterrupted views of the surrounding landscape. The interior has been reconfigured to create a generous open-plan living space, allowing daily life to centre around the water and the changing conditions beyond the glass.

At the heart of the main room is a monolithic kitchen island made from peach-coloured cast concrete, with the worktop extending to form a dining area. This substantial piece of internal architecture creates a focus for food preparation, conversation and eating, balancing monumentality with the intimacy of domestic life. Throughout the house, sawn oak joinery softens the atmosphere and provides a warm counterpoint to blackened steel details.

The more private areas continue the same crafted language. A staircase encased in full-height blackened timber creates a sense of enclosure on the way to the bedrooms and bathrooms, where routed oak panelling conceals storage and bespoke beds and side tables project from oak-lined walls. Cast-concrete bathroom sinks echo the kitchen island below, while slim-framed replacement glazing opens the house to expansive views across the lake. The result is a calm and highly functional retreat, where robust materials form a quiet backdrop to life at the water’s edge.
