This striking mural transforms an understated street frontage in Clerkenwell into a bold visual marker for a hidden creative courtyard. Created to establish a stronger identity for the building and improve its presence within the surrounding streetscape, the intervention turns an otherwise anonymous entrance into an invitation to discover the vibrant community beyond.

The design draws inspiration from the lush planting found within the concealed courtyard. Using a greenery-inspired palette, layered botanical sketches are composed into a vibrant jungle-like landscape that hints at the unexpected garden behind the gates. The mural creates a sense of curiosity from the street, encouraging visitors to pass through the entrance and experience an oasis hidden within the dense urban fabric.

The graphic language also responds to the building’s long association with creative industries, having previously housed shoe manufacturers, engravers and printers. The mural motif extends into the entrance interior, creating a seamless visual connection between the street, the threshold and the landscaped courtyard beyond. Through colour, pattern and scale, the project transforms the experience of arrival, identity and place to visitors and passersby alike.
