Clockwise Bremen transforms an existing 1980s building into a flexible workspace for co-working specialists Clockwise, creating a new home for businesses in the city. Located on the River Weser, the project draws on Bremen’s distinctive geological context, where the Old Town was founded on a sand dune shaped by the river’s sedimentary deposits.

This local geology informs the arrival sequence, with the main reception and café positioned above ground level and shaped through the use of Clayworks plaster. Applied to the bar and reception desk, the hand-finished material creates visible strata and brings a sense of warmth more commonly associated with hospitality interiors than traditional workspaces. Corrugated plaster walls, natural textiles and planting extend this tactile language throughout.

The ground floor is organised around a club space with banquette seating, booths and informal work areas, while a meandering hung steel staircase encourages movement between levels. The existing precast concrete frame has been stripped back and exposed, celebrating the cruciform columns, while workspaces are arranged in a staggered formation around the central core. Meeting rooms with opaque glazed panels provide privacy while offering glimpses of activity within, reinforcing a workplace centred around openness, warmth and communality.
